The French Bulldog, or the Frenchie, is another bully breed dog. Surprise! But seriously, the name of the dog is pretty descriptive. Just like Kyle had said in a recent episode, the naming schema was “Place, thing related to what it does, dog/hound”. The history is very similar to the other bully breed dogs, but this dog was originally the reject dogs. When English Bulldogs came out too small, they would send them off to France. The French loved this.
The dog is actually much more popular than any other breed that is part of it’s lineage. This includes dogs like the pug, or the Mastiff, which is interesting, as it is nowhere near the size of a mastiff. This is also one of the most expensive dogs to give healthcare to. Any sort of issue that could happen, seems to happen to this dog. Down to even being nearly incapable of naturally breeding. They’re lucky that they are generally accepted as a cute breed, otherwise, this dog would go the way of the Steller’s Sea Cow.
In this episode, Caitlyn and Kyle talk about Red Dead Redemption 2. Mostly against Caitlyn’s will, because it’s what Kyle has been doing. Not him playing the game, just talking about it on the show that is probably not listened to by people who enjoy games. Whoops!

The Affenpinscher, or the “monkey dog”, is the final dog of Dogtoberfest! Don’t worry, I’ll go back and address that “Monkey Dog” thing. Apparently someone thought the dog looked like a monkey. That’s the story. Sorry, I didn’t mean to get your adrenaline running. Interestingly though, in German, Affen translates into english as “ape”. Which only furthers the whole thing, because Apes technically are not monkeys. Go ahead ask any know-it-all around you, they’ll be sure to point that out.
These days, the Affenpinscher is mostly a toy dog that doesn’t really work. In it’s original form, it did indeed perform many terrier tasks. The dog actually performed a few different jobs, moonlighting as a hunter during the day, and a lapdog at night. Much like some other small dogs we’ve covered, they were essentially little furnaces.
Caitlyn and Kyle spend WAY too long looking up things we didn’t know. I could only imagine the audience sitting at home shouting the answers to our queries into their windshields. I assume most people who listen are likely inside of a vehicle.

The Yorkshire Terrier, or the Yorkie, may be one of the smallest dogs, but they had a pretty big impact. They were originally bred for clearing mill houses of small pests. Or not? The men who bred the Yorkies were not very good at keeping records of what they did or why. This is actually a point of frustration for later breeders.
One of the smallest dogs of all time was a Yorkshire Terrier, not much larger than a matchbox. That is insanity that something could be that small. One of the most celebrated dogs of WW2 was also a Yorkie. Smoky started out as a stray, that travelled across the world with their master helping out with the war. Yeah, actually legitimately helping out with the war.
Caitlyn and Kyle talk about their recent trip to Disney. It’s pretty good. I feel like I’ve already given away too much of the episode in this text, so just check it out!

The Chihuahua, I guess that’s what we’re doing this week. Among the small dogs we’ve done, Chihuahuas are the smallest we’ve covered. So small, their breed recognition has only a disparity of two pounds that they can be within to even get accepted into dog shows. Since they’re so small, they also live nearly as long as horses.
One who knows a little bit of geography, may be quick realize the chihuahua may be named after Chihuahua, Mexico. Few people probably know they were also called Texas Dogs, Arizona Dogs, Mexico Dogs as well. And that’s about all their history. Well, they have a bit more history, but it’s pretty grim.
This episode we talk about Kyle’s brief but memorable history with the Taco Bell dog, as well as Billy West’s extensive voice acting career. Kyle is also impressed that people can get kids or animals to act. Also, we’re back to a regular schedule after this, since we recorded this right after the last one. Immersion broken!

Happy Year of the Dog! For the Lunar New Year, we’ll be doing a series on Asian dogs and the first week is all about the Shih Tzu. We tackle the question of what is a Shih Tzu? So many names for such a small dog. You’ll be surprised to know that the dog is not pronounced “Shit Zoo”, as we all think it is, but pretty much exactly how it’s spelled.
This episode has eunuchs, lions, casual racism and a ridiculous pronunciation guide. Kyle and Caitlyn also learned new medical terminology, and think it would be a great band name. What is it, you ask? You’ll just have to listen!

This week, we discuss a dog both of us can barely pronounce! Seriously, what is a Xoloitzcuintli?! After this week was nearly cancelled because Caitlyn has a sinus infection (sorry for the stuffy nose voice in advance), the episode takes a turn for the interesting with Aztec sacrifices, Chupacabras, and an expedition. There’s also an appearance by Christopher Columbus, and Caitlyn gives a tutorial on how to be a real life treasure hunter.
This weeks question of the week: what did you want to be when you grew u that as an adult you realized was never going to be possible for you? Or you know, what did you want to be, and actually ended up being? Send us your answers at email@example.com or use the contact form here.

Brussels Griffon, why are you a dog?! On this episode Kyle innocently corrects Caitlyn’s French pronunciation and Caitlyn has a meltdown. Ever wanted to know where Ewoks’ looks come from? Or how magicians get birds to fly out of hats (there’s a lot of bird talk in this episode for some reason…sorry)? Be sure to give this episode a listen and learn about the small, not nearly popular enough dog with a big heart.
Outro song is “Yub Nub (Original Ewok Celebration Song)” from Star War VI: Return of the Jedi.
Happy Thanksgiving! This week on the podcast Caitlyn and Kyle take you on a journey in their longest episode yet. A journey that includes an arguments about the opening about the show, a misnamed dog, a lot of topography, and some unnecessary information about crofts. Be sure to listen to the very end of the episode for some bonus content that didn’t quite make it into the greater context of the show!
This week’s outro song is The Aussie’s Cowboy Song (Australian Shepherd) by Nancy Simmonds on her album Musical Tails, 2nd Litter.
Pomeranians, why are you a dog? Caitlyn and Kyle discuss the inevitable royal history of the Pomeranians (you knew it was coming!), marvel at how many color combinations they have, and joke about how they’re bringing the entire dog economy down.
There weren’t any corrections this week, but boy will there be some next week. Make sure you follow WAYAD on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram at @whyareyouadog, and send any emails to firstname.lastname@example.org. Be sure to rate, review and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts!
Outro song is Pom Pom Get a Pom by Nancy Simmonds off her album Musical Tails, 2nd Litter.
Pugs, why are you a dog?! This week, Caitlyn helps Kyle unravel the royal history of the Pug, which includes espionage and dog-sized pantaloons. Pugs are our first brachycephalic dog, and Caitlyn runs through the laundry list of health concerns pugs have (It’s a long, loooooong list), and talk about the most famous pug on the internet. She also helps change Kyle’s mind on why pugs are actually pretty cool dogs.
Caitlyn and Kyle also challenge listeners to an art contest, where they briefly (and poorly) describe Caitlyn’s dog Willie and ask for art submissions on what listeners think he looks like. All of their personal friends who have seen Willie are excluded from this contest, which means they probably won’t have any submissions. Assuming there are any submissions, winners will be revealed on Episode 15 and the prize of warm and fuzzy feelings will be awarded.
Outro song is Pug Song from the Super Delux YouTube channel.
