The Doberman Pinscher! We’re back in Dogtoberfest time, and we’re picking one of the most well known guard dogs. In most mediums of entertainment, they usually appear as guarding an area of dubious intent. Interestingly, it is one of the few dogs used for guard work to be bred for that sole purpose. Way back in Germany, a Herr. Dobermann wanted to have a dog that was excellent at protecting him in a new job venture. So he went out and made one. But he still couldn’t get a dog with the kind of ears he liked.
The Doberman is often shortened to just “Doberman” in the US, and completely in Europe. The reasoning mostly due to Pinscher meaning Terrier in the native language. They also come in a few different colors other than their common black and tan colors. Mostly ranging between red and blue, with a rare occurrence of white with blue eyes.
In this episode, Caitlyn teaches some Punnett Square biology, and the different allele combos. Kyle finally asks the question we’ve all been dying to know the answer to. Are these dogs smarter than a crow?
Song is “They Dance” by Golden Earing.
